Hello Neighbors,

I'm Megan Kola, and I am honored to announce that I have successfully won my write-in campaign for County Commission, and am now the official Democratic nominee for Macomb County Commission in District 5.

My strong belief in and passion for democracy started in the fourth grade when I decided to run a full-fledged campaign for Safety Patrol Lieutenant. Campaign signs and playground speeches may have gotten me a lot of strange looks from my fellow nine-year-olds, but democracy prevailed and I won my first election. This is when I decided for the first time that a fair and equitable election process was important to me, and I have never let go of those standards or beliefs.

My journey led me to Sterling Heights in 2010, where my family found opportunities we didn't have in our rural hometown. Now, my husband and I are proud to raise our two children in this community rich in culture and possibilities. I believe that young families like ours deserve a strong voice on the County Commission, advocating for policies that support families and foster opportunity.

Before starting a family and settling in Sterling Heights, I continued my education, earning a degree in Paralegal Studies and entering the legal workforce as a paralegal for a local personal injury attorney. I have since spent nearly a decade doing the legwork to constantly fight for justice for victims of motor vehicle accidents and general gross negligence. I have spent the last six years working for The Lobb Law Firm, where I was blessed to become part of the family of the owner, Joseph Lobb, a fierce defender of social justice, policy change, and victim advocacy. My time spent working as a paralegal has instilled in me a passion for championing fairness and supporting victims. Sadly, Mr. Lobb passed away this February, but his loss has encouraged me to pursue my passion for public service and inspired my campaign.

I'm committed to allocating funds to prioritize the health and safety of our community, making sure our parks and trails are a safe place for women and children, protecting our Great Lakes, expanding senior protection programs to safeguard the rights and health of our elderly population, investing in our schools, supporting our teachers, and lowering barriers to affordable single-family homes in our community so more young families just like mine can have a shot at the American Dream.

Throughout my life, I've been dedicated to serving my community through volunteering, advocacy, and activism. I promise to continue this momentum, working to improve our city and county as a whole. Your support is a vote for a voice in local politics that truly represents you.
